Rubin Leaving Position as President & CEO of MHTA

Minneapolis, MN (June 4, 2010) - MHTA announced today that Kate Rubin, president and CEO of the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA), will be leaving her position after nearly nine years to accept a position as vice president of social responsibility for UnitedHealth Group and executive director of the United Health Foundation.  Rubin has led MHTA since December 2001.

"Under Kate Rubin's leadership, MHTA has grown into the state's most prominent technology-related association," said Joy Lindsay, president of StarTec Investments and chair of MHTA's board of directors.  "While we're sad to see her leave, we're very excited by this new opportunity where Kate will continue to have a major impact on Minnesota's economic vitality."

During Rubin's tenure, MHTA has made significant gains in promoting the growth, sustainability and global competitiveness of the state's technology-based economy.  Dramatic expansion in revenue and programs occurred on her watch, including substantial public policy achievements and growth of MHTA's premier events - the Tekne Awards and Spring Conference.  Rubin spearheaded the association's leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, often partnering with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) to maximize outreach and effectiveness.  Rubin guided the association's launch in 2009 of getSTEM (www.getSTEM-MN.com), an innovative web portal that links educator needs with business resources.  In 2006, Rubin implemented the ACE Leadership Program that fosters the development and growth of 40 next generation technology leaders per year through seven day long sessions over the course of the year, where senior executives share lessons learned.

The MHTA board of directors is beginning a search for the association's president and CEO.  In the meantime, the organization has designated MHTA's Chief Operations Officer MaryFrances Schurb to lead the association on an interim basis during the transition.

"We are fortunate to have an outstanding staff with many years of experience," Lindsay said.  "The association is in good hands while we conduct a search for a leader to carry on our mission."
