Consumer groups criticize med device bill
MHTA – As final votes near on legislation designed to speed up the federal review timeline for life-saving medical devices, some consumer groups complain Congress is missing an opportunity to strengthen the process. The U.S. Senate approved the bill last week. Another vote may be held this week in the U.S. House.
Data management presents UAS challenge
MHTA – The world is developing an insatiable demand for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and keeping up with it will present both a fiscal and data management challenge. That is one of the observations made by military leaders recently at the sixth annual UAS Action Summit in Grand Forks. The U.S. Air Force alone estimates it will need 117,000 personnel just to process all of the raw data it will receive when the next generation of technology goes online.

MHTA – Robotics Alley and the Minnesota High Tech Association are at the UAS Action Summit in Grand Forks. Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Action Summit 2012 is co-hosted by The Red River Valley Research Corridor and the City of Grand Forks. It is focoused on developing and strengthening the nation’s growing unmanned systems industry and advancing the call to develop responses to some of the pressing issues, challenges, and opportunities.
U of M begins search for new head of research
MHTA – University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler has appointed a search committee to assist with the hiring of a new Vice President for Research. The committee will begin its work soon with a goal of bringing candidates to campus this fall for public interviews.
