STEM INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
So you think because you are graduating from a great public or private university you will get a job without a problem. Think again. With this economy, some top graduates with 4.0's may have their hands full getting a job. But how do you get jobs after graduating? Most employers say real world experience is the key to getting a job. OK, so the question changes to how do you get real world experience? One word for you: Internship.
Whether you're completing your first year or nearing graduation, you probably have talent and skills, but need someplace to practice and polish them. An internship can provide the perfect opportunity. You can sharpen the skills you've learned in school and gain real-world experience. Worried that all you'll do is make copies and coffee for the boss? Don't sweat it. Interns often work on challenging projects, while forging valuable professional relationships. It's a great opportunity to learn more about your field of study and possibly receive an offer for a permanent job - plus it's a lot of fun.
The Minnesota High Tech Association, with funding assistance from the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission, has created the iSTEM internship board to give you an edge in finding an internship in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. MHTA is working in partnership with the North Star STEM Alliance to increase the number of STEM students who obtain internships and graduate with STEM degrees. A focus is also placed on broadening the participation of Minnesota's underrepresented minorities in the STEM fields.
