MHTA – Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal has named Ecolab’s Doug Baker its 2013 Executive of the Year. Baker is the chairman of the board and CEO of the St. Paul-based manufacturer. In its profile, the Business Journal notes sales increases and major deals since Baker became CEO in 2005.
“Throughout his more than two decades with the company, Baker’s leadership skills have grown with it – and beyond into the community,” the newspaper writes. “The number of employees has more than tripled, with Ecolab’s work force spanning the globe. Net income has more than doubled. And the stock price has made significant strides.”
Ecolab is the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services. It provides science and technology-based programs and solutions to the food, energy, healthcare, industrial and hospitality markets in more than 160 countries.
Baker began his career with Ecolab in 1989, following seven years in brand management at Procter & Gamble. At Ecolab, he has held key roles in marketing, sales and general management in both the U.S. and Europe, and leadership positions including vice president and general manager of Kay, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ecolab.
Baker’s community leadership was also praised. He serves as chairman of GREATER MSP, the economic development organization charged with accelerating job growth and capital investment. Baker is also active with Habitat for Humanity and co-chaired the 2012 Greater Twin Cities United Way campaign.
