MHTA — DataBank, a data center provider located in Eagan, recently hosted a group of students from Mounds View High School for an excellent onsite Tech Experience Tour.  MHTA is working with area companies to provide these unique Tech Experience Tours for students interested in learning more about information technology and the high tech business world.

The students from Mounds View High School visited the DataBank data center in Eagan and learned about DataBank’s role in the Twin Cities IT community and how the company evolved to become an important fixture in the IT landscape of Minnesota.  DataBank’s team members walked the students through the state-of-the-art Tier-III data center facility, explaining the driving technologies which both power and offer redundancy for the company’s colocation, network interconnectivity, managed services and cloud computing solutions for many prominent businesses in the Twin Cities.  They also learned how industry trends and evolving technologies affect opportunities for IT-based careers.

The visit was organized by DataBank’s local General Manager, Kris Edinger and in addition to a full tour of the data center also included a number of interactive sessions with key staff sharing their own industry insights and career advice.  Students had the chance to discuss career fields in IT, emerging trends in technology and how to prepare for future opportunities in the industry.

“It was great to interact with such bright and motivated young people,” said Kris Edinger, General Manager of Minnesota for DataBank.  “We believe it is important for high school students to be exposed to the broad set of career options in information technology fields.  The students and our staff were really engaged in the discussion of both careers and future developments in IT. We feel they came away with a clearer picture of the possibilities based on their personal characteristics and drivers.  .”
